What Are Porcupines
Porcupines are large, slow-moving rodents which are distinguished by the quills (spikes) on their back. They have several species, all of which use their spikes as a self-defense method. Males weigh an average of 5.5 kilograms and females weigh an average of 4.5 kilograms, ranging from 60 centimeters to 100 centimeters in length. They are Canada’s second largest rodent, behind beavers. Trees are important to the livelihood of porcupines, as they provide food, and shelter from predators. They are strict herbivores, so no need to worry about them trying to take a bite out of you or your pets.
Common porcupine removal requests:

When to Consider Porcupine Removal
If you detect any early signs of a porcupine living around your property, you should call Animal Damage Control. The most common early sign is bark from trees being eaten away. Although they do not pose much of a threat to humans, curious dogs will approach porcupines with confidence, which leads to a painful lesson learned.
